After the devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster hit eastern Japan in March of 2011, Saitama-based home theater company Budscene and other members came together quickly to establish nonprofit organization Niji-Iro 'Rainbow' Cinema, believing that cinema had the power to entertain survivors with smiles, laughter and even tears. Employing a professional-grade 130-inch screen and industrial-sized Dolby 5.1-channel surround sound system, Niji-iro Cinema provides entertainment and encouragement to survivors spending their days in cramped temporary housing.
Since April 14th Niji-Iro Cinema has screened distributor-supported movies at about 30 locations throughout Miyagi prefecture (Minami-Sanrikucho, Kesennuma, Ishinomaki, Yamamoto-cho, Watari-cho and Sendai), Fukushima prefecture (Minami Soma, Iwaki, Fukushima City, Tamura) and Iwate prefecture (Otsuchi-cho).

The purpose of raising money is to provide food, drinks and necessary products to make our Niji-Iro Cinema audiences happier. Our biggest goal during this season is to hold festive Christmas screenings on December 23rd and 24th in Ishinomaki. We will call on local ]people to help us out to offer food and, if possible, Christmas cake during screenings (aside from our usual freshly-made popcorn).
We will also request cooperation from local food stands ("yatai," authorized by the city) and doner kebab trucks that have helped us in the past. Although they provided food for free at our past screenings, we want to be able to hire them. Lack of employment is a crucial problem in disaster-affected areas. In the future we hope to expand beyond these offerings.
Please help the Niji-iro Cinema Support Project Fund and bring smiles to the faces of the courageous people of Tohoku. Your help makes a big difference in their lives.
